In June 2011, the Western Australian Government committed to deliver a new major stadium for Perth.  After reviewing the work of the Major Stadia Taskforce (published in its June 2007 final report) and considering the views of a wide range of stakeholders, the State nominated the Burswood Peninsula option as its preferred site, and publicly committed to begin construction by 2014, with the completed Stadium to be ready for the commencement of the AFL season in 2018.
