Empire View and Gantry Court are nine-storey residential blocks close to the centre of Southampton. Due to fire safety concerns, in 2021 works began to replace the existing bricks works, replacing with a rainscreen cladding system.
Main contractor Lawtech Group specified 2500m2 of Valcan’s VitraDual A1 Aluminium cladding for the updated façade of the two buildings to meet the highest safety standards, ensuring the safety of the residents.
The panels were installed to the building's exterior using VitraFix subframe fixings which ensure they were properly aligned and sealed. The entire installation was subject to rigorous quality checks to ensure compliance with the latest building regulations and fire safety standards.
The whole project was carried out while the buildings remained occupied, which required careful coordination to minimise disruption to the residents. The works were completed by June 2023 with residents commending the great service from the Lawtech team.
The recladding project has significantly improved the appearance of Empire View and Gantry Court. The new cladding not only enhances the buildings' aesthetic appeal but also modernises their look, making them more visually appealing and in line with contemporary architectural standards.
Residents and visitors have noted the positive change, appreciating the fresh and updated façade. Additionally, the new cladding contributes to the buildings' overall safety and energy efficiency, adding both functional and visual value.
