Closing the Loop: Our New Recycling Pallet Scheme

Helping You Reduce Waste, Cut Costs & Support a More Sustainable Construction Industry

The construction sector generates large volumes of timber waste every year — much of it from pallets that are used once and discarded. At Valcan, we believe there’s a better way.

To minimise environmental impact and support more responsible material management, we’re introducing the Valcan Pallet Recycling Scheme. This initiative encourages pallet reuse, reduces waste across project sites and supports more sustainable project delivery — all while maintaining the high standards you expect from Valcan.

All Valcan pallets will be clearly marked: “Property of Valcan” or “Valcan Pallet Recycling Scheme”

 How It Works

To support recycling and encourage returns, Valcan offers a credit-based return system for pallets:

When pallets are returned, a credit will be applied to your account based on their condition.

Return Credit Structure*

Condition

Credit

Description

Good / reusable

£50

Pallet is in a strong, reusable condition

Repairable

£25

Minor repairs needed – pallet can still be reused

Non-recoverable

£0

Pallet is damaged beyond repair and unsuitable for reuse

*All assessments are carried out by Valcan at the point of collection or when delivered to the Valcan warehouse.

Collection Requirements

To ensure efficient and environmentally responsible collections:

  • A minimum of 10 pallets must be available at one location. Fewer than 10 pallets may incur a transportation charge.
  • Pallets must be:
    • Clearly identifiable as Valcan pallets
    • Safely stacked and secure
    • Easily accessible (forklift access where required)

Customer Responsibilities

To support the success of the scheme, customers should:

  • Store pallets safely and prevent avoidable damage
  • Avoid modifying or repurposing pallets
  • Not transfer pallets to third parties
  • Notify Valcan when pallets are ready for collection

Collection Process

  1. Customer contacts Valcan to request pallet collection
  2. Valcan schedules collection based on location and logistics
  3. Pallets are inspected upon collection or delivery to the Valcan warehouse
  4. Applicable credit is applied to the customer account

Timeframe for Returns

Pallets should be made available for collection within 90 days of delivery. Credits may be reduced or declined for pallets held beyond this period unless otherwise agreed.
