The redevelopment of Reading’s Civic Centre forms part of the wider regeneration of the town’s civic quarter. The project includes a major extension to the existing Civic Centre and the relocation of Reading’s Central Library into a newly modernised, purpose-designed space. This transformation aims to create a more accessible, energy-efficient, and community-focused public facility for residents.
To achieve a durable, A1 rated façade with a clean, modern aesthetic, VitraDual in Frost White was specified for the exterior envelope, totalling 1200m² of material. The product’s lightweight yet robust aluminium composition made it ideal for improving long-term performance while meeting stringent fire safety and regulatory requirements for public-sector buildings.
VitraDual is also an ideal choice for high‑traffic public areas such as the entrance to the Civic Centre thanks to its exceptionally durable, impact‑resistant aluminium construction and low‑maintenance, scratch‑resistant finish.
Working closely with CPMG Architecture, the façade design blends contemporary lines with complementary tones to elevate the visual identity of the Civic Centre.
Delineate Design Ltd carried out the installation of the cassette panels, ensuring precision across complex junctions and integration with the new extension areas. VitraDual’s ease of fabrication enabled efficient on-site progress and helped meet the programme targets set by Morgan Sindall.
Project Outcomes:
This redevelopment completed early 2026, delivers a modern, refreshed civic landmark for Reading, featuring a façade engineered for longevity, low maintenance, and high performance. The use of safe, compliant cladding ensures suitability for high‑traffic public environments, while the exterior design strengthens the building’s aesthetic identity as part of the wider regeneration of Reading’s town centre.
