The Link in London is a prominent mixed‑use development on City Road, seamlessly combining retail, office and residential spaces within a single, architecturally complex structure. As part of a major remediation programme to bring the building in line with current fire safety requirements, Valcan was proud to support the transformation with our fully non‑combustible VitraDual A1 solid aluminium rainscreen system.
Working in close collaboration with specialist façade contractors Hamilton, over 2,000m² of VitraDual was specified to replace the existing, non‑compliant cladding across the development’s varied elevations. Appointed in 2022, main contractor Mulalley led the remediation effort, ensuring the building - home to a diverse mix of occupants - could be safely upgraded without compromising its visual identity or functionality.
VitraDual was chosen not only for its A1 fire rating, but also for its ability to provide a like‑for‑like aesthetic match to the original façade. The project utilised a vibrant and carefully curated colour palette including Crux Grey, Frost White, Reef Blue, Bright Orange and Fresh Green, allowing the refreshed exterior to maintain the distinctive character of the original design while significantly enhancing safety and durability.
Expertly installed by Hamilton Building Contractors using a rivet fix method, the finished façade demonstrates precisely what modern remediation should achieve - a system that is safe, compliant, long‑lasting, and visually impactful.
The result is a contemporary exterior that reinstates trust in the building’s performance while preserving the architectural identity that makes The Link such a recognisable presence in the local area.

VitraDual is one of the few large format cladding panels that are truly 100% non-combustible achieving A1* to BS EN 13501-1. Also tested to BS8414-2 for fire performance of external cladding systems and compliant to BR135 requirements - certificates are available which include VitraDual in specific configurations.
VitraDual has also been successfully tested to CWCT standards at a safety loading of 3600pa in both cassette fix and rivet fix using VitraFix as the subframe system.
VitraDual (3mm) comes with a BBA (certificate number 20/5824) giving an external cladding service life of at least 30 years - see section 10 of the BBA.
